Description:
The Cristóbal Colón Spanish School is located just 3 blocks North of the Mariscal Sucre sector of Quito. The school is very well equipped with over 15 classrooms, a library, a salon, and terraces and patios. Students have the option of taking classes in “open-air classrooms”, where they and their private instructor pass the day in the school’s garden soaking up the sun’s rays and cool mountain breezes while learning Spanish at the same time. Tables and umbrellas are set up in these “open-air classrooms” so as to not lose the comforts of a classroom environment.
All teachers at the Cristóbal Colón Spanish School have University Degrees as well as diplomas in Spanish language instruction. All have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience, and are equipped with at least a basic level of English. Teachers are open to running classes inside or outside of the classroom, depending on the student’s preference, and are always available for after-hours assistance.

Great atmosphere, great
Great atmosphere, great teachers and a well structured course helped me to progress quickly from knowing no Spanish whatsoever to being able to carry a conversation. For the price it was everything I could have hoped for and more (I even got to learn salsa for free!).
Cristobal Colon Spanish School
I am going to study Spanish at Cristobal Colon. Could you please tell me more about this school. How was your homestay (if you had one)? Do you have any experience studing Spanish in Cuenca?
Many thanks.

Hi cyrus! when are you going to this school, I will go to it in zeven days.. send me an email if you like. misslotte_z@hotmail.com
Hi Cyrus, though I do not
Hi Cyrus, though I do not have any first hand experience from the Cristobal Colon Spanish school, I can tell you that the school consistently recieves solid reviews past students. However, a lot depends on the teacher you end up with. It will be up to you to decide early if you are happy with your teacher, if your styles match, if you are comfortable talking with them, etc. If not, it is up to you to bring this up with the school. A lot of people don't like to do this, as they do not want to step on anyone's toes, however this is YOUR spanish learning experience, and there is no reason to waste it with a teacher that you do not work well with.
Same thing goes with the homestays, 90% of them are with great families that are very cool, allowing the foreign student his independence, while also providing them with a friendly family environment where he can practice his Spanish. But it does happen, on occasion, that the family and foreign do not make a good fit, and are constantly clashing with one another. Again, you should enjoy your experience here and should take something back from it, therefore if you do not feel that you and your family make a good fit, tell your school. There is no sense spending $15/day or $450/month (very expensive for accomodation in Ecuador), to live with a family that you do not enjoy being with.
Cuenca is a really beautiful city, relatively safe, and much quieter than Quito. I definitely suggest you spend some time there if you have the opportunity.
Please let me know if I can be of anymore help. And if for the off chance, your Spanish School or homestay does not work out, please let me know and I would be happy to help you find something that better fits your needs. info@theecuatraveler.com
